Zach Miller
Zach Miller
Zach Miller was born in Kenya to missionary parents. He spent the first few years of his life in Kenya before moving home to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was in the rolling hills and dense forests of rural Lancaster County that Zach developed a love for running. After competing in track and cross country in high school he continued his running career at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.
After college, a job working on cruise ships sent Zach on a whirlwind adventure that took him to six of the seven continents (all but Antarctica). Ironically, it was during this time that Zach discovered his talent for running ultra distances. By way of training on ship treadmills, logging vertical in stairwells, and running in random ports of call, he managed to train for and win both the 2013 JFK 50 Mile in Maryland and the 2014 Lake Sonoma 50 Mile in California.
He then moved to Manitou Springs, Colorado where he cut his teeth on the high altitude trails of the Pikes Peak region. After living in town for about a year Zach took a job as a caretaker at the infamous Barr Camp, an off grid cabin/camp that sits half way up Pikes Peak. Sitting at 10,200 feet in elevation and surrounded by miles and miles of trails, Barr Camp makes for an excellent training base for Zach.
Over the past few years Zach has racked up wins all over the world. In 2015 Zach became the first American Male to win the 101k CCC race in Chamonix, France. Since then he has also notched wins at the 2016 Madeira Island Ultra Trail race in Portugal, back-to-back wins at the 2015 and 2016 The North Face Endurance Challenge 50 Mile Championships in California, and top 10 finishes at the prestigious UTMB race in Chomonix, France (2016 and 2017). This year Zach looks to continue his success as he prepares to represent team USA at the IAU Ultra Trail World Championships in Spain and then return to France in late August for another go at UTMB.
